An Ode to the "Smarter Than"

Do you find yourself googling statistics every time you do something stupid?

Like somehow your invisible brethren make what you did any less so.

But big surprise you don’t feel better.

In fact, you feel worse.

Because you’re smart.

Even more than that, you’re “smarter than that”

Smarter than that kid who skipped on the train tracks

Smarter than the countless lost to heroin overdose.

Smarter than needing AA.

Smarter than a goddamn statistic.

But in reality, you’re just smart enough.

Smart enough to mind the gap.

Smart enough to not even try it.

Smart enough to know when to stop.

Smart enough to not get caught.

But what about when it catches you?
