Depression Is
sleeping because it’s less time awake
having a billion things to do but
no motivation to do any of it
telling people you have the flu because
that’s easier to understand
not going anywhere just
because …
being annoyed at the weather
sleeping because it’s comfortable
wanting to not be alone but also
wanting to be alone
needing someone there but
not knowing how to ask
being annoyed at people
registering hunger but being too “lazy”
to do anything about it
sleeping because it’s sleep
staring at work you know you have the ability to do
but
not doing it
an itch that can’t be scratched
being annoyed
staying inside because
it’s easier than putting on a smile
piling on the makeup to cover up
the dark circles from not sleeping
sleeping because it’s easier than
being productive
not actually knowing what you need but
knowing you need Something
wondering if anyone notices when you’re gone
not actually caring if anyone does
not really.
sleeping because …
writing poetry instead of doing things you’re supposed to be doing
being too afraid of failure to
even try
sleeping because …
saying “I’m tired” when asked the dreaded question
being afraid
sleeping because …
avoiding caffeine because it means you can avoid being awake for too long
day after day not wanting to do anything
sleeping.
